Il MET Gala è molto più di questo: ogni anno, il primo lunedì di Maggio, il Costume Institute inaugura la sua esposizione al MET Museum di New York con un gala decisamente esclusivo pieno di VIPs, che hanno in comune i fatto di essere vagamente simpatici ad Anna Wintour (l’editor di Vogue America e il direttore artistico di Condè Nast, che guarda caso è la “”””presidentessa”””” del gala dal 1999).

The MET Gala is so much more than that: every year on the first Monday of May the Costume Institute inaugurates its annual exhibition at the MET museum of New York City with an exclusive gala full of A-list celebrities, that have in common the fact of not being a pain in the *** to Anna Wintour (the editor of American Vogue and the artistic director of Condé Nast, who also happens to be the chairwoman of the gala since 1999).

Anna Wintour managed to turn a “simple” fundraising event for the Costume Institute into the ultimate fashion party and media event ever.
Every year the lucky guests are encouraged to dress according to the theme of the exhibition, therefore we can easily think about it as a fancy costume party…where tickets cost $30,000 apiece and tables are about $275,000.
Nel 2017 il Constume Institute ha voluto celebrare la iconica designer giapponese Rei Kawakubo, fondatrice della casa Comme des Garçons e praticamente la designer più influente di questo secolo: le sue creazione sono famose in quanto il confine tra fashion ed arte è quantomeno labile (se non impalpabile). Rei è il perfetto esempio di libertà creativa ed è questo a cui noi dovremmo pensare quando parliamo di avant-grade…ma è anche vero che molte delle sue opere sono STRANE.
Dopo Yves Saint Laurent in 1983, Rei Kawakubo è la seconda designer ancora in vita a cui è stata dedicata una mostra al MET, ecco qualche anticipazione…
This year the Costume Institute is celebrating the iconic Japanese designer Rei Kawakubo, founder of the label Comme des Garçons and basically the most influential designer of the 21st century: her designs are famous for crossing the line between fashion and art. She is the epitome of freedom and that’s what avant-garde should mean…but yeah most of her designs fell weird.
After Yves Saint Laurent in 1983, Rei is the second living designer to be given a solo show at the MET, here’s a sneak peek of the exhibition…
